In the trailer for Alejandro González Iñárritu's upcoming film Birdman, Michael Keaton's character says in voiceover: "How did we end up here in this dump? You were a movie star, remember?" Naturally, there's a meta quality to this line and seemingly this entire movie—Iñárritu's first feature since 2010's Biutiful—in which former-Batman Keaton plays a man who used to play a superhero called Birdman now doing a Broadway play.

The trailer itself, scored to "Crazy," has a surreal, fantastical quality to it, and we only see glimpses of the other people in the cast that includes Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, Zach Galifianakis, and Edward Norton. Norton's mostly naked character taunts Keaton's: "Why don't you get your wings and your bird suit, man?" For what it's worth, Vulture's Kyle Buchanan tweeted: "The Birdman trailer I saw last fall had a lot more Ed Norton nudity. If you're into that sort of thing!"

Some are already murmuring the word Oscar when it comes to Keaton. Stay tuned.
