The long-gestating reimagining is almost upon us, and now the first trailer is here. The title role of lovable orphan Annie is filled by Beasts of the Southern Wild's Quvenzhané Wallis, and Daddy Warbucks is played by Jamie Foxx. In this twenty-first century version, Warbucks has been renamed Benjamin Stacks—a perfect transposition.

Cameron Diaz looks pretty able as Ms. Hannigan and the cast is rounded out by a reliable cast of character actors like Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale. Will Gluck, who directed the very likable Easy A a few years ago, is in the director's chair for this one as well.

Annie 2K14 (not its real title) has gone through a few iterations. It's produced by Will Smith and Jay-Z, and was originally set to star Willow Smith in the title role. She dropped out and Wallis stepped in after her breakout performance in 2012. Sandra Bullock was offered the part of Ms. Hannigan but turned it down. Did you know that Emma Thompson wrote the first draft of the screenplay? You are allowed to admit that you did not.

The film comes out Christmas Day. This could be good! Open your heart and believe!
