Some Sunday night shows, thankfully, aren't airing new episodes. Shameless, for instance, is off this week. The Good Wife is on hiatus. Downton Abbey just ended. But there's still plenty of TV to keep you occupied.
The Oscars: Of course, if you're going to watch the Oscars then you're going to watch the Oscars. And there's a lot of Oscar stuff to watch. For instance, the pre-show on ABC starts at 7 p.m., followed by the show at 8:30 p.m., which is scheduled to go to 11:30 p.m., but we all know how that goes. [ABC]
True Detective: HBO's obsession-worthy new show airs its penultimate episode at 9 p.m. So if you want to know who the Yellow King is and what happens when present-day Rust and Marty get drinks, then you're going to have to skip part of the Oscar ceremony. This is prime think-piece territory stuff. [HBO]
Girls: Yes, despite moving Girls and Looking from their 10 p.m. hour for the Super Bowl, HBO did not move them for the Oscars. Arguably this night may have more conflicted viewers. To make matters even worse, Oscar nominee June Squibb guests on this episode of Girls. Squibb plays Hannah's hospitalized grandmother. This is one of those one-a-season Girls episodes that focuses on Hannah and her family rather than the titular girls. [HBO]
Looking: Patrick and Richie will head to Patrick's sister's wedding in this episode, but you'll have to save the nuptials for Monday morning if you are mired in Oscar-viewing. [HBO]
The Walking Dead/Talking Dead: If you're more into zombies than trophies the two hour long block including there's a new episode of The Walking Dead followed, of course, by Talking Dead starting at 9 p.m.. [AMC]
The Amazing Race: All Stars: We guess if you're a dedicated Amazing Race fan, this is where you'll be at 8 p.m. You'll really only miss Ellen's monologue and the first couple awards. [CBS]
