Lena Dunham Talks Jezebel's 'Monumental Error,' Doesn't Read Gawker

In an interview with Grantland's Bill Simmons online today, Lena Dunham opened up about her reaction to that time Jezebel offered $10,000 for unretouched photos of her.

In an interview with Grantland's Bill Simmons online today, Lena Dunham opened up about her reaction to that time Jezebel offered $10,000 for unretouched photos of her. "That was messed up," she said. "I think Jezebel is really smart and funny, I think it's just like once you've been attacked that way it's hard to enjoy. It's hard to enjoy once you feel like they've made such a monumental error in their approach to feminism." 

It's clear that Lena Dunham and the Gawker Media world haven't had such a cozy relationship as of late—on Girls Hannah and Adam had a fight that was a thinly veiled attack on both Gawker and Jezebel. Earlier in the interview, conducted on Simmons's "BS Report" podcast, Dunham addressed Gawker's longstanding criticism of her show via their early recaps, "which I didn't read because I don't read Gawker." She added: "I love gossip sites [but] I literally get no pleasure from the Gawker kingdom."

She reiterated her appreciation for Vogue to Simmons. "I was like, thank you for removing the one line from my face because I'm 27 years old and shouldn't have that there," she said of seeing the unretouched photos, which she rightly said were not that different from the ones that were published. But she added that she did not like the way Jezebel framed their discovery, as something that could have been worse. "It was this weird almost political maneuvering that I just had a lot of trouble respecting," she said.
