Kanye West just surprised everyone and posted a beautiful trailer for Yeezus, the new movie documenting his recent tour promoting the album of the same name, to his website. Per Miss Info, the Yeezus movie was directed by acclaimed music video director Hype Williams and hill hit theaters soon. Which theaters? No one knows. How soon? Your guess is as good as mine.
But no one can deny the visuals West released today are stunning. Stunningly shot concert footage from his recent tour is cut with stock footage of black horses running in the snow, reminiscent of visuals at the beginning of the "Bound 2" video, and black trees against a red sky. (Perhaps a reference to "Blood on the Leaves," one of Yeezus' stand-out tracks.) That Yeezus is visually striking should come as no surprise: West's last two attempts at making short films, the extended videos accompanying Runaway and Cruel Summer, were praised for their camera work, even if things didn't always come together as a whole.
For now, we'll have to wait for Kanye to deliver the rest of the movie. The Yeezus concert was part mega-concert, part religious experience. Expect something similar from the movie.
For now, you can only watch the trailer on Kanye West's website.
