Jada Pinkett Smith is headed to Gotham City, joining a very interesting cast that Fox has lined up for its Batman prequel series.

James Hibberd of Entertainment Weekly reported that Smith will play Fish Mooney, a "a sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner," who acts as the boss of Oswald Cobblepot—a.k.a. The Penguin—who is set to be played by Robin Lord Taylor.

The series, aptly titled Gotham, is set to focus on Commissioner Gordon in a pre-Batman city, and has already enlisted Ben McKenzie, best known from The O.C., to play the lead. (Playing a cop isn't new to McKenzie, who is coming off his run on Southland.)

The series will mark something of a return to acting for Smith, who hasn't appeared in a live action role since the end of her short-lived TNT series Hawthorne. In fact, all members of the Smith brood are becoming better known as members of the Smith brood than for their roles. See: Will's appearance on The Tonight Show.
