The Olympics just haven't been the same without perennial host Bob Costas, whose strange eye disorder (pink eye) took him off our TV screens last week. But now, after days of rumors, NBC announced that Robert Quinlan Costas will return tomorrow night.
And not a moment too soon. Costas' replacements, Matt Lauer and Meredith "I fell in a toilet" Vieira, were capable enough but bland, bordering on insipid. And Vieira actually hugged skeleton silver medalist Noelle Pikus-Pace the other night. Come on.
Costas has been out since last Tuesday, when an eye infection that began in his left eye spread to his right. Costas tried to laugh it off, at one point doing vodka shots with Mary Carillo, but then he wasn't able to see in bright light anymore and he had to take a night off for the first time in 157 Olympic broadcasts.
Starting tomorrow, he'll start the streak over again.
We're rooting for you, Bob!
