Bob Costas' Eye Watch: Looking Good!

Last night, our long, national nightmare ended: Bob Costas returned to his post as the anchor of primetime Olympic coverage. His eyes looked pretty good!

"Welcome to NBC's primetime coverage on this Monday night," Costas deadpanned as he opened the show. "I'm Bob Costas, sitting in tonight for Matt Lauer and Meredith Viera."

Costas, as you probably know, was suffering from what he finally confirmed as "viral conjunctivitis," a.k.a. pinkeye. He told reporters yesterday, per The Hollywood Reporter, that he had been mostly vampiric during his time off. "The worst three days of it I was primarily in a darkened room," he said. "There were other times, just to break the monotony, I would walk down to the lobby of the hotel to go to the restaurant our out on the terrace at night." He had added that his eyes wouldn't be 100 percent better Monday night, but they sure were a whole lot better than the last time we saw him. This was a photo from the February 10 coverage

And this was a photo from last night:

On the road to recovery, Bob! Costas called the incident an "ill-timed affliction," and will now be wearing eyepatches from now until the start of the summer 2016 Olympics in Rio.
