At Least One Hillary Clinton Movie Is Progressing
Though Hollywood now feels littered with failed projects relating to Hillary Clinton, there's good news for one group of filmmakers looking to tell the former secretary of state's story.
Though Hollywood now feels littered with failed projects relating to Hillary Clinton, there's good news for one group of filmmakers looking to tell the former First Lady and secretary of state's story.
Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter reports that Lionsgate may produce Rodham, the in-the-works biopic about a young Hillary Clinton set to be directed by The Spectacular Now's James Ponsoldt.
For what it's worth, it never looked like Rodham was going to face the same fate as a CNN documentary and an NBC mini-series about Clinton. When both those projects came to a halt in October, the feature film was forging ahead with a focus on the love story between Hillary and Bill. The film concentrates on her time spent working for a House Judiciary Committee during Watergate, when Hillary was a young lawyer.
Of course, Kit notes that "sources caution that talks with Lionsgate are early in nature and may not work out," but a deal of this sort would be great news in a Hollywood landscape that doesn't seem too kind to projects about the potential 2016 presidential candidate.
