Big Fun: 'Heathers' Musical Gets Off-Broadway Run

Looks like that Mean Girls musical (if it ever happens) is going to have some competition: a Heathers musical is set to open off-Broadway in March.

After a successful Los Angeles run (and after plans to produce a Heathers TV show were, mercifully, abandoned), the show will run in New York's New World Stages theatre from March 17 (opening night is March 31) through September 7.

"Heathers" was written by Kevin Murphy (who also wrote "Reefer Madness") and the music is from "Legally Blonde's" Laurence O'Keefe. The movie version's screenwriter, Daniel Waters, was "involved in the development of the production," according to Playbill, although that was as specific as it got.

No word yet on the cast, but ... I'm pretty sure Winona Ryder and Christian Slater and even Shannen Doherty are available.
