'Batman vs. Superman' Is Getting Some Oscar-Caliber Help

Alongside reports that Joaquin Phoenix is in talks for a villain role of some sort, it seems that Ben Affleck is enlisting a member of his Argo team to work on the script for the Batman-featuring Man of Steel ​sequel.

Alongside reports that Joaquin Phoenix is in talks for a villain role of some sort, it seems that Ben Affleck is enlisting a member of his Argo team to work on the script for the Batman-featuring Man of Steel ​sequel.

The Hollywood Reporter's Tatiana Siegel reports that Chris Terrio, who won an Oscar for adapting the script for Argo last year, has been brought in to write a draft of Batman vs. Superman. Of course, having written Argo, Terrio has ties to Batman—sorry, Affleck—which may speak to the behind-the-scenes role the movie's star is playing.

Meanwhile, Variety's Justin Kroll—who has been on a roll with Superman scoops as of late—points to sources who say that Warner Bros. wants Joaquin Phoenix cast the film. This is all very preliminary, but Kroll writes that "it’s believed to be for the main antagonist, which is likely to be Lex Luthor." So imagine bald Phoenix being supremely creepy—isn't he always sort of?—and get excited.

Or maybe don't set yourselves up for disappointment. A superhero movie may just be too mainstream for Phoenix.
