The Oscar short list for documentary features was released today,  giving finalists a 1-in-15 shot at being Academy Award-nominated.

This annual narrowing-down is an attempt by the Academy to get voters to see as many of the same potential nominees as possible before they vote on the five that will be nominated. This year was a particularly strong one for docs, so the short list was not the easiest ticket in town to get.

According to IndieWire, your Best Documentary Feature nominees will be five of the following:

The Act of Killing
 The Armstrong Lie
The Crash Reel
Cutie and the Boxer
Dirty Wars
First Cousin Once Removed
God Loves Uganda
Life According to Sam
Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer
The Square
Stories We Tell
Tim’s Vermeer
20 Feet from Stardom
Which Way Is the Front Line from Here? The Life and Time of Tim Hetherington

This list includes the four films that would appear to be frontrunners: 20 Feet from StardomBlackfishThe Act of Killing, and Stories We Tell.

Notable omissions from this list include Errol Morris's Donald Rumsfeld doc The Unknown Known, Call Me Kuchu, which lost out to its similarly-themed God Loved Uganda, the abortion doc After Tiller, music industry film Sound City, internet-privacy expose Terms and Conditions May Apply, and the fishing-vessel groundbreaker Leviathan.
