Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth deal with a terrible past while looking very beautiful in the U.K. trailer for Jonathan Teplitzky's The Railway ManKidman plays the wife of Firth's Eric Lomax, a World War II vet, who was tortured at the hands of the Japanese as a prisoner of war.

The film looks lush and lovely, but despite its pedigreed cast, The Railway Man ended up getting lukewarm reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival. While The Guardian's Catherine Shoard praised the film and Firth's performance, giving it four stars out of five, The Hollywood Reporter's David Rooney called it an "old-fashioned war drama stuffed into a cumbersomely choppy time structure." It's not been a great year for Kidman's period pieces, in fact. Her Grace of Monaco got pushed out of the Oscar race to 2014
