Just how many superheroes are going to appear in Warner Bros. Man of Steel sequel already featuring both Batman and Superman? The rumor mill is churning with talk of Wonder Woman making some sort of appearance.

The question of whether Wonder Woman will be involved in the film has been up in the air for a while now, but it gained particular steam last night when Justin Kroll of Variety reported that three actresses—Gal Gadot, Elodie Young, and Olga Kurylenko—were testing for a role that "appears to be the role of Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman." Kroll's story is full of caveats, including the fact that "sources stress there’s still a possibility this role could be Bruce Wayne’s love interest," but it fanned the flames of an already growing fire.  It should be noted that Kurylenko starred opposite Batman—you know, Ben Affleck—in Terrence Malick's To the Wonder

The rumors have been around for a while, and back in October, Warner Bros.' Greg Silverman carefully dodged the question when Variety's Claudia Eller asked if Wonder Woman would make an appearance, saying, that "everything that has been speculated are things that we’ve thought about." Even more recently, on the Thor sequel's press tour this past weekend, Jaimie Alexander raised eyebrows when she revealed that she "kind of knows the story line" for Batman vs. Superman. And this week, the site Schmoes Knows cited a source saying that Kurylenko was up for the part.

But there are those in the superhero movie news community—and it is a vast community—throwing cold water on all these reports. Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter tweeted last night: "Since the cat seems to out of the's what I heard: Wonder Woman will not be in Supes vs Batman. But a certain Diana may show up." Hence, Diana Prince will be around but not her alter ego. He added that he's "pretty confident these tests are not for WW, who will have a minor minor role. This is Supes vs Bats. Not Supes vs Bats vs WW." Kroll's report did note that some "insiders" think that members of the Justice League are due to make cameos in the film, with Wonder Woman and the Flash "said to be locks." (As for more rumors connected to this movie, El Mayimbe at Latino Review floated the notion this week that Dick Grayson, a.k.a. Nightwing, might have some sort of role in the film.)

Of course, it would be best if Warner Bros. would just pony up and give Wonder Woman her own movie, but it's looking like we'll get at least some sort of presence from her in the upcoming film.
