Khloe Kardashian Odom (you know, the funny one) gave the world a giant hint that a divorce from her husband Lamar Odom would be on the way: she removed "Odom" from her Instagram account. Sadly, that's the way the world works now — changing what you call yourself on social media streams affected you IRL. It's not unlike when Demi Moore changed her Twitter handle (after her divorce from Ashton Kutcher) from "@mrskutcher" to "@justdemi."
"Her Twitter name was never changed and on her Instagram she took off Kardashian AND Odom on her bio only. Her Instagram handle has ALWAYS been just Kardashian to match her twitter name — so both of her names are @KhloeKardashian," Kardashian's publicist told Hollywood Life, adamantly denying and perhaps protesting a bit too much that this name deletion means anything. Let that sink in, this person is getting paid (probably good money) to talk about Khloe Kardashian's Instagram name.
Kardashian's monumental Instagram move got us to thinking about the Hollywood third name, because it never seems to work out and the famous women eventually has to revert back to the name that got her celebrity status in the first place. We noticed that the average lifespan of a female Hollywood third name lasts, on average, 7.5 years. Kardashian married Odom on September 27, 2009 (3 years, 11 months, 29 days). Here are some notables:
The Celeb-Athlete Pairing
Longoria Parker: 3 years, 4 months and 10 days.
Eva Longoria (Parker) was a celebrity who married an athlete and took his last name (just like Kardashian did). The two were married on July 7, 2007 and Longoria added Tony's Parker surname to her own. Longoria filed for divorce on November 17, 2010 and one of the terms of that filing was that she have her name restored.
Cox Arquette: 13 years, 11 months, 16 days
Courtney Cox married David Arquette on June 12, 1999 and the name Courtney Cox Arquette was born. The two separated in 2010, and in June 2012 David filed for divorce, which was finalized on May 28, 2013. Courtney did not have her name changed until the divorce was finalized.
The On-Again Off-Again
Anderson-Lee: Three years and nine days.
Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee married on February 19, 1995 after knowing him for about 96 hours. Anderson was known as Anderson Lee from then until their divorce in February 28,1998. Anderson filed for divorce a couple of times in that three-year period and reconciled each time, making life really annoying for pop culture writers (who didn't know whether to call her Pamela Anderson, Pamela Anderson Lee, or Pamela Lee).
Romjin-Stamos: 15 years and counting.
*In order to come out with our average we looked at the names (with the exception of Romjin-Stamos's odd situation) mentioned in addition to Meredith Baxter Birney (1974-1989), Brooke Burke Charvet (August 12, 2011-present). We did not include women who took their husband's names and did not keep their own, nor did we include Sean Knowles-Carter.
