The idea of Taylor Swift acting has always felt like more of a threat than an actual reality, until today: The Weinstein Company announced that Swift has been cast alongside Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep in the highly-anticipated, long-awaited adaptation of Lois Lowry's The Giver.
The Giver tells the story of Jonas (Brenton Thwaites) living in a society known as the "Community." Assigned to be the Receiver of Memory, he is instructed by The Giver, to be played by Bridges. According to Hillary Busis of Entertainment Weekly, Swift will play Rosemary, a girl The Giver had trained before Jonas.
So there you have it. Swift building on her work making a cameos in New Girl and Valentine's Day is set to appear with two Oscar winners in a film that will try to bring to life one of the most beloved YA novels of all time. When this news first came from Page Six we were skeptical—Swift, after all, never ended up playing Eponine in Les Misérables— but it's all for real. Good luck, Tay. And God bless the rest of us.
