You know summer is over when luxury department store Barneys New York is already pushing their holiday windows plan, which this year will include the stylings of a very New York icon. Women's Wear Daily reported this morning that Barneys will feature Jay Z's "A New York Holiday" collection in their windows starting on November 20. If you're looking to start your holiday shopping early, know now that the cheapest thing on the menu is a $70 t-shirt.
Barneys typically does a holiday collaboration with an iconic style partner for their windows each year. Last year they worked with Disney (which upset some people, with their sorta-of sexualized Minnie Mouse). The year before, Lady Gaga was in charge. Now, Barneys has finally tapped into authentic New York style by commissioning a line that (as usual) most people in New York cannot afford. The signature piece of the collection is a $33,900 timepiece with "black alligator straps, deployment buckle and yellow gold movement.
Jay explained his choices to WWD,
Everything that encompasses ‘A New York Holiday’ . . . represents a perfect example of a unique and groundbreaking collaboration that I hope demonstrates how inspiring New York has been to me.
At least individuals who decide to make purchases will be contributing to the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation, which passed out 188 college scholarships to students in need last year. Twenty-five percent of all sales will go to the foundation.
The collection goes on sale November 20, and you can see more images at the Barneys website.
