Will Amy & Tina Do Golden Globes Double Duty Again?
Fans of funny ladies who piss off Taylor Swift should get excited: Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have been invited back to host the Golden Globes.
Fans of funny ladies and who piss off Taylor Swift should get excited: Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have been invited back to host the Golden Globes.
To be clear, this is not a done deal. Nellie Andreeva of Deadline reports that "there are no active conversations between the network and the funny ladies who have received an informal invitation versus a formal offer as NBC and [Globes producer Dick Clark Productions] are looking to gauge their interest."
Obviously, as Andreeva points out, Fey and Poehler are both very busy. Still, the Globes, unlike the Oscars, aren't that much of a time commitment: Hosting would only require a couple of weeks out of the stars' schedules. Poehler has the sixth season of Parks and Recreation, while Fey—who has a development deal with Universal Television—has multiple projects in the works including comedies she's producing for both NBC and Fox.
Fey and Poehler are good business for the Golden Globes, the freewheeling awards ceremony put on by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association that airs on NBC. Not only was their hosting stint last year nearly universally beloved, but they brought big ratings: The show rose 17 percent in overall viewers from the previous year. (Below, video of their monologue.)
If Fey and Poehler are to return, the awards season would be stacked with hilarious, likable women; Ellen DeGeneres has been selected as the 2014 Oscar host. It would be a different dynamic than 2013 when Fey and Poehler were held up on a pedestal after Seth MacFarlane brought his nasty brand of humor to the Oscars.
