Many wondered about Howard Kurtz's relationship with Daily Download editor-in-chief Lauren Ashburn while Kurtz's relationship with The Daily Beast was publicly imploding, and now two breakups later, their cozy friendship can continue because Ashburn has now followed Kurtz to Fox News.

The Huffington Post's Michael Calderone reports Ashburn officially ended her relationship with The Daily Beast in July and joined Fox News this month. This is all well and good, just another media person jumping from one outlet to another, a change that would otherwise go unnoticed if it weren't for the curious circumstances surrounding her exit.

Howard Kurtz was fired from the Daily Beast in May for, among other things, an inaccurate column criticizing pro basketball player Jason Collins for not disclosing his homosexuality sooner. Another possible transgression, raised at the time by Calderone and the Washington Post's Eric Wemple, was Kurtz's unexplainablly close relationship with Ashburn. "There is a lot of gossip here about his connection to the Daily Download," one Daily Beast staff member told Calderone. Kurtz sure was appearing in a lot of Daily Download videos and promoting the heck out of the Daily Download on Twitter, much more so than his official duties at CNN and the Daily Beast. Kurtz and the Daily Beast broke up, it got messy, and then the former Reliable Sources host split with CNN, too. He eventually found a new home at Fox News. The two friends were far apart.
