The Star Wars rumor mill has been a strange beast this week now revealing that Ryan Gosling may be in the running to play Luke Skywalker's son, but it's hard to see how all the reasons that would keep the dreamy actor from donning the Batsuit wouldn't also prevent him from wielding a lightsaber.
After massive clamoring for Gosling to play Batman from certain quadrants of the web's intersection of Gosling and comics fans, Kellvin Chavez at fan site Latino Review explained that Gosling is one of two names that "have been thrown around a lot" for that other big nerd-friendly project. Chavez wrote: "what I was told for sure is the Gosling went in for Skywalker’s son. Yes, that’s right Luke’s kid." The story, Chavez reports, would take place 30 years after Return of the Jedi. Lest you think there's no chance of this rumor ever coming to fruition, do note that Latino Review broke the news that Harrison Ford was coming back to the franchise.
The reasons why Gosling may not do Star Wars look very similar to the reasons he might not be Batman, which we catalogued yesterday. Gosling has shied away from big moneymakers, and has said he's going on a break. That break would have to be very short if he were to do Episode VII since it is due to come out in 2015. But perhaps Gosling has some Disney loyalty. As some noted on Twitter, as this news broke both Gosling and the other actor Chavez mentions, Zac Efron, got their start with Disney, which now owns Lucasfilm. Or maybe he just really wants to be a Jedi. Or maybe they are offering him a ton of money. Stranger things have happened.
