The New 'Bling Ring' Trailer Unveils Emma Watson as the Anti-Hermione

Unlike, the girls of, say, Spring Breakers, Watson's test in Sofia Coppola's movie is not about whether she can get all sexy. It seems like she will convincingly transform into the polar opposite of her Harry Potter heyday.

After a tantalizing teaser, we now have the full trailer for Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring, and, boy are we intrigued.

With cameos from celebs as themselves—including Coppola buddy Kirsten Dunst—and a soundtrack from Azaelia Banks and Sleigh Bells, the trailer lays on the theme of cultural-celebrity-fascination-as-young-things'-downfall hard. And, not for naught, this story—based on a real-life tale of a group of L.A. teens who steal from the rich and very famous—is about just that.

Though Watson is most definitely part of the ensemble, which includes Leslie Mann doing her concerned mother thing, the new trailer is certainly highlighting Watson's against-type performance as a star-obsessed young criminal. Unlike, the girls of, say, Spring Breakers, Watson's test in this movie is not about whether she can get all sexy. No, it seems like this movie will answer the question as to whether Emma Watson can convincingly transform into someone who is the polar opposite of Hermione from Harry Potter. She played a sensitive teen in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, but she was still ultimately the good hearted kid in that indie role. Here, the trailer closes in on a be-sunglassed Watson giving a speech about how the situation is a "huge learning lesson" for her. We buy it.

The film is opening the Cannes Un Certain Regard slate on May 16.
