Fans of John Green and The Fault in Our Stars, his wonderful and best-selling Y.A. novel about two teens who meet at a cancer support group and fall in love, are eagerly anticipating the upcoming movie. Well, today's a big day, because the filmmakers have announced their choice for the role of our heroine, Hazel Grace Lancaster. EW's Sara Vilkomerson reports that Shailene Woodley—you may remember her from The Descendants, or perhaps ABC Family's The Secret Life of the American Teenager—"has been offered the role of Hazel Grace Lancaster in the adaptation of John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars." According to EW,

“During our exhaustive search to find Hazel Grace Lancaster, I saw some stunning auditions by today’s finest young actresses,” director Josh Boone tells EW in an exclusive statement. “Over 250 girls read for the part, but it wasn’t until Shailene stepped in front of the camera that I truly saw Hazel for the first time.  It was like lightning striking.  I can’t wait for the rest of the world to see what I have.”

Woodley is said to be in negotiations for the role. Green has already tweeted his approval:

It seems, in fact, as though the whole operation is pretty great...

...and his fans seem to approve, too:

It's lovely and inspiring that there appear to be such good vibes with regard to the Hollywood production of the fantastic book, but it's not a surprise. Green has that way about him.

The 21-year-old Woodley, who drew raves at Sundance for her role in the adaptation of Tim Tharp's The Spectacular Now, will also be playing Beatrice Prior in the film of Veronica Roth's Divergent. She may be our new Y.A. hero.

Now, who's Augustus Waters?
