Sci-fi siblings the Wachowskis are the latest auteurs turning to Netflix as a platform for a television pet project à la David Fincher and House of Cards. Yes, Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of Sense8—"a gripping global tale of minds linked and souls hunted"—which are set to premiere in late 2014, Deadline reports.
Score another point for online television and specifically Netflix, which is rolling out a number of high profile projects in the coming months. Next month we've got Eli Roth's Hemlock Grove, and then of course in May comes Arrested Development. Meanwhile, this week Amazon—which is also building up its slate of original programming—ordered a pilot of Zombieland, a series based on the 2009 film starring Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson. So, yes, we guess this is really the wave of the future.
Sense8 will be the Wachowskis' first leap into the world of television. Here's hoping that Sense8 turns out more Matrix than Cloud Atlas.
