Blame it on hipsters? This chart from Digital Music News shows how vinyl hit another "modern-era record" in 2012, selling 4.6 million units, according to data from Nielsen Soundscan. Last year 3.9 million units were sold. Actual, real-life record sales have been rising since 2006. Comparatively, in 1993, when the chart begins, the unit sales dip far below the million-unit mark. Per Digital Music News most of the vinyl units are "being sold at indie retailers, with a heavy lean towards rock."
Everything old is new again.
