The Strange Music Comeback of Justin Timberlake Is Coming to the Super Bowl

Justin Timberlake is making his return to performing music live at the Super Bowl — sort of. The Associated Press reports that Timberlake has planned his first concert in more than four years for DIRECTV Super Saturday Night on February 2, the night before Super Bowl Sunday. It's an invitation-only concert serving as a benefit for the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Questlove will DJ.
Timberlake released his new song "Suit & Tie," which also features Jay-Z, earlier this month in pretty annoying fashion — he teased a release, then made us wait days before we actually could hear the track. Today MTV released yet another JT-related teaser, this time for a "lyric video" that will come out on Thursday:

Despite Timberlake's megawatt status, the song is not actually doing that well. Reuters reports today that his new track "fell short of sales expectations for its first week and was kept from the top spot on the Billboard digital songs chart by a novelty rap act." That novelty rap act song is Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' "Thrift Shop."
Regardless, news of Timberlake's performance means this Super Bowl weekend will be musically intriguing. Not only do we have the return of Timberlake, but we'll also see what Beyoncé has to show for herself during halftime after that lip-syncing scandal. Let's not forget the Super Bowl is familiar territory for Timberlake, and the site of Janet Jackson's infamous wardrobe malfunction, which he had a, well, hand in.
