Tour Wes Anderson's High School, a.k.a. the Set of 'Rushmore'
A.V. Club's Pop Pilgrims series travels to Houston, Texas, the filmmaker's hometown, to check out some of the locations in his second film.
When Wes Anderson scouted locations for the all-boys prep school in his second film, Rushmore, he looked as far as the U.K. in search of the perfect location. "It wasn’t until he saw some photos of St. John’s," his own high school, "that he realized the places he had been imagining were the ones he knew from going to school there," A.V. Club's Kyle Ryan writes. The school ended up providing inspiration, the location, and a host of student extras for the film, as showcased in the film's "yearbook montage" sequence, cataloging Max Fisher's extracurricular activities at the fictional Rushmore Academy. Pop Pilgrims, a travel series about culture from The Onion's A.V. Club, travels to Houston, Texas, Anderson's hometown, to check out the school and other locations in the film.
