A Psychedelic Music Video Channels Hollywood's Love of Road Trips

If the motion in the animated video for "Mr Overtime" by Punks Jump Up, featuring Dave 1 of Chromeo, looks particularly cinematic, it's because it's modeled on footage from actual films. The sequence emerged from driving scenes in movies like Drive by Nicholas Winding, Somewhere by Sophia Coppola, Mullholland Drive by David Lynch, and more. The team at ChezEddy, a French production studio, worked with director Maxime Bruneel to craft a mashup montage that became the basis of the animated sequences in the music video. The subjects and camera movements were then extracted and stylized as an '80s-inspired, yet modern, 2D world. For an extra surrealist twist, the animal in the video is a hybrid of a bear, an octopus, and a bulldog.
