Streisand Snubs Sumner Redstone; Gwyneth Paltrow's Short Trip

Welcome to the Smart Set. Every morning we bring you the gossip coverage, filtered. Today: A poorly-timed snub of Sumner Redstone by Barbra Streisand, Gwyneth Paltrow rides .06 miles from drinks to dinner, and a "palace source" insists the President of the Philippines is not yet a single fella.

Ha, so it seems that Barbra Streisand "hit up" Sumner Redstone for a multi-million dollar donation to a "women's charity," but then she didn't show up to see the Viacom mogul receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Now all of Hollywood is "buzzing" about the snub. Buzzing! “Sumner wanted the huge star to attend his star ceremony, and had expected to see her there after making his donation,” a source explains, “he was upset that [Streisand] didn’t show up.” Groused another source: “If someone gives you a million dollars and asks you to show up, you do it,” Makes sense to us. This week in Gwyneth Paltrow: the actress and duck fat bacon enthusiast "took a 10-second car ride from the Stella McCartney party to the following dinner [at Madeo] in LA on Friday." Even better: a source says Paltrow and husband Chris Martin made the trip in "gas guzzling Town Cars, as they were chauffeured a few feet and got out at the restaurant that was pretty much next door to the party." This is sweet, and also curious and strange: Bubba Watson says the only person who called him after he won the Masters earlier this month was Justin Bieber. So many questions! How does Justin Bieber have Bubba Watson's cell phone number? Why didn't, say, the President of the United States place a call to Watson, as is customary? The good news is, Selena Gomez was on the line as well, so Watson can't come back and say he felt lonely in victory. [VF Daily}

Speaking of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez: it seems that while Bieber is perfectly happy chartering private jets for Gomez, he's also made it clear that her parents fly commercial when they're all travelling to locations. Bieber talks a big game about how every girl is a princess (adorable), which by default makes a Canadian prince of some sort, but would a prince (Canadian or otherwise) ask his girlfriend's parents to brave coach while "in a rented Cessna Citation X, known as the world’s fastest business jet... which sports Rolls-Royce engines and seats that turn into beds [and] fits up to eight passengers" all by his lonesome with Princess Selena. Gomez isn't particularly upset, but a source says "some of the actress/singer’s friends aren’t happy about the situation, and have told her to kick her 18-year-old boyfriend to the tarmac." A "Filipino palace source" is denying that President Benigno Aquino III has broken up with Grace Lee, his Korean TV host girlfriend, despite rumors appearing on social networking sites saying their five-month relationship was kaput. [Asia One]

Guys, Carey Mulligan is getting married this weekend. To Marcus Mumford, from Mumford and Sons. It's the first marriage for both, though it looked like Mulligan was close to tying the knot at the end of the Wall Street sequel. [Radar]

D.C. lobby shop DCI Group laid off "about a dozen employees Tuesday," bringing the firm's staff down to 135. DCI represents the likes of Exxon and Verizon and generated $1.4 billion in lobbying revenue last year.
