90-Year-Old Lady to Save NBC

The Call Sheet sifts through the day's glut of Hollywood news to find the stories even non-industry types care about. Today: Betty White to the rescue, the return of Captain America, and JGL bows out.

Betty White's new prank show Prankin' with Betty (or something? Spoofs and Goofs? Grandma Chuckles' Gotcha Hour?) premiered last night and gave NBC its highest ratings in that time slot that it's had in three months. So look for NBC to get very excited about this regular gas of a show, and to quietly look into anti-aging technology so they can keep this White cash cow around as long as they can. At long last you can exhale. I know you've been waiting to. Marvel has announced that their Captain America sequel, in which the Cap'n faces off against an old prankster played by Betty White, will drop into theaters on April 4th, 2014. So two years from yesterday. (Two Years from Yesterday would make a good wistful indie title, wouldn't? Get on it, Marvel Pictures Classic. That exists, right?) Aren't you excited? Don't you just wish time would speed up, that we could all just age two years without even knowing it and some people would be dead but at least we'd be in the future so we could see Captain America: The Revenge of Kitty Galore? Too bad. Coffee-dipped cruller come to life Joseph Gordon-Levitt has dropped out of Quentin Tarantino's next film Django Unchained because the shooting schedule conflicts with that of the movie that JGL is going to direct. So, he chose his own project over Quentin's. Which is too bad. But maybe Tarantino will cast him in his next movie? Maybe in a bigger part than this was supposed to be? That'd be cool. Hey, Quentin, if it means anything to you, and let's not kid around of course it does, we hear he has great feet. [Entertainment Weekly]

Here is a trailer for Oliver Stone's drugs thriller Savages, which should just be called Two Handsome Guys Rescuing a Pretty Girl because with Aaron Johnson, Taylor Kitsch, and Blake Lively in the three main roles it's hard to pay attention to anything else. Oh, well, I guess Salma Hayek is interesting as the film's villain. We're actually really excited to see this! The return of Oliver Stone? Eh, who cares about that. Tim Riggins shootin' guns!!!

And here is a trailer for a completely different kind of movie, the little indie romantic comedy Lola Versus, which features Greta Gerwig in a just ever-so-slightly girlier or more commercial role than we're used to seeing her in. In that she, like, talks about shoes and stuff. Other than that it looks pretty straightforward. Also: Joel Kinnaman! You can snabba our cash whenever you want.
