Another Baby for John Edwards?; Your State Visit Gift Registry

Welcome to the Smart Set. Every morning, we bring you the gossip coverage filtered. Today: President Obama and David Cameron went all-out on the ceremonial gifts, John Edwards and Rielle Hunter have reportedly decided to have another baby, and Charlize Theron has adopted a child.

Oh dear: sources tell The National Enquirer that John Edwards and former mistress and current girlfriend Rielle Hunter have apparently made a "shocking decision to have another child." That is somewhat shocking -- though maybe not as shocking as the circumstances surrounding the birth of their first child -- considering Edwards is awaiting trial for violating federal campaign finance laws and recently underwent heart surgery. Lots of famous faces in attendance at that not-a-state dinner last night, including: George Clooney, Carey Mulligan, John Legend, Richard Branson, Harvey Weinstein, and Anna Wintour, who the Washington Post noted looked "teeny as a human Q-Tip" in a black-and-white Chanel gown. One of the best parts of any visit from a foreign dignitary is the ceremonial exchanging of gifts. Sometimes the gifts are somewhat chintzy -- remember when President Obama gave Gordon Brown the box set of Planet Earth and everyone went, "Why did you give Gordon Brown a bunch of DVDs?" -- but President Obama and David Cameron both went all out this time. Cameron gave Obama a "customized Dunlop table tennis table...complete with UK and US flag bats" (those would be paddles) while Obama gave Cameron "one-of-a-kind Braten 1000 Series charcoal and wood burning grill, handmade by Engelbrecht Grills and Cookers of Paxton, Illinois" (like the one pictured at right), plus two White House chef jackets, thoughtfully embroidered with David and Samantha Cameron's names. But that's not all: the three Cameron children were given "a personalized US beanbag chair featuring the presidential seal." In non-not-state-dinner news: Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue cover subject Kate Upton is not beloved by her model peers, who apparently were "frosty" and "[had] the knives out" for her last month at a launch event for the issue at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. One even rolled her eyes when a photographer tried to put Upton at the center of a group photo, while another "mumbled something under her breath." Then when Upton asked, hey, what did you mumble under your breath, the unnamed antagonist replied “Don’t worry about me, honey, cause I’m not worrying about you!” Mean! We could only imagine how she responded when she found out about Upton being on the cover. [Page Six]

Michael Dell has won his long, somewhat pointless fight to have the child he fathered with Top Chef host Padma Lakshi bear his very famous name. Sources say that the two-year-old, who is now just Krishna Thea Lakshi, will hereafter be known as Krishna Thea Lakshi-Dell.  [Page Six]

Charlize Theron is now a mom after adopting "a healthy baby boy named Jackson." Sources say the tot is from America. He's Theron's first child. [Us Weekly]

Bloomberg News has axed Finance Team editor William Ahearn, a decision that a sources says has led to "shocked and saddened Bloomberg bureaus around the world." A spokesman for the company confirmed Ahearn's departure, though it's unclear why the move was made.  [Jim Romanesko]
