Welcome to the Smart Set. Every morning we bring you the gossip coverage, filtered. Today: Katy Perry has her eye on Tim Tebow, James Franco left Amanda Seyfried hanging at the Lovelace wrap party, and Susan Collins is getting married.
James Franco and Amanda Seyfried were apparently "quite flirty" on the set of Lovelace, but not flirty enough that Franco bothered attending the film's wrap party on Friday night. Typical Franco! A source says guests kept coming up to Seyfried and asking her where Franco was, but she "seemed to be having too much fun with [very married] co-star Peter Sarsgaard to care." Heyo! [Gatecrasher]
Snoop Dogg received a Gatorade shower Saturday after he caught two touchdown passes from Warren Moon and was named MVP of the Celebrity Beach Bowl, the annual flag football game featuring retired NFL legends and celebrities of a certain vintage. The dousing reportedly did not go over well with Snoop, who according to a source was "unhappy because he got wet.” Not unreasonable, since this particular Beach Bowl was played in a practice bubble in Indianapolis, and not an actual beach. Snoop's displeasure caused organizers backstage to panic, with one official reportedly instructing a young assistant, “Take off your socks, Snoop needs a dry pair!” It's unknown if he did, but Snoop was in much better spirits later at the gift suite, where he became "intrigued by a set of hair straighteners, which he began using." It was at this point that Snoop delivered perhaps the greatest quote in gifting suite history, telling staffers, "If it's free, it's for me." [Page Six]
Also in Indianapolis this weekend: Katy Perry made her interest in Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow very clear, first by dedicating a performance of her song "Peacock" to him at a DirecTV-sponsored bash on Saturday night and then saying "Hey Tim, my parents say hi" while presenting an award at the NFL Honors. Also, she just happened to have a suite for yesterday's game that was directly next to Tebow's. [E! Online]
Maine Senator Susan Collins is engaged to Thomas Daffron, who is COO of the D.C. lobbying shop Jefferson Consulting. Collins and Daffron were staffers for former Maine senator Bill Cohen in the 1970s, but "only started dating a few years ago." They're planning a summer wedding, and also recently bought a four-bedroom townhouse near Capitol Hill together. It will be her first marriage. [Bangor Daily News and The Reliable Source]
