Newt Gingrich's indignation over being asked about his ex's open-marriage allegation during Friday night's debate raised plenty of eyebrows, including those of Jon Stewart, who couldn't help but take the time to lay into for the former speaker three days later.
Wondering how he won South Carolina, Stewart points to the incredible spin Gingrich put on his response to the debate's opening question about the open-marriage business. ("I am appalled you would begin a presidential debate on a topic like that.") As a straight-faced Stewart summarizes it, it's "the moment when values voters supposed disgust of the moral turpitude of those in American public life is knocked out cold by their anger at the right's supposed victimization by the media." But Stewart reserves his harshest critique for how moderator John King missed the hypocrisy of someone like Gingrich getting angry over being asked about his infidelity.
