Jessica Chastain won for being in basically all the movies this year. And, y'know what, it was deserved. For Take Shelter alone. This Chastain gal is gonna be big. You heard it here last.

Awesomely, Albert Brooks won for his delightfully chilling work in one of the weirdest movies of the year.

Yay! Meryl Streep wins for her stunning portrayal of Burmese activist Aung San Suu Kyi.

Oh wait, no, oops, she won for her portrayal of British anti-poor people activist Margaret Thatcher.

Meanwhile, Jessica Chastain's costar wins for two movies. Could this be Brad Pitt's year to win an Oscar? He just might get the Sandra Bullock treatment. (Beloved but not terribly lauded actor gets his due because everyone loves him.)

The NYFCC opts for the silent movie The Artist for top prize, an interesting choice that ought to make Harvey Weinstein happy.

Elsewhere, awards were given to the banker apologia Margin Call for best first feature, Emmanuel Lubezki's gorgeous work on Tree of Life won for cinematography, and Steve Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin took home the screenwriting prize for Moneyball. So, hm.  Looks like Moneyball could be an actual Oscar contender.

Oh Oscars! They're almost here. With the NYFCCs and last night's Gotham Awards, awards season is officially off and running. Brace yourselves.
