You might recognize Daily Show writer Elliott Kalan from little known cameos as the butler who sprinkled rose pedals at Bill O'Reilly's feet or "the misunderstood Toppington von Monocle" on the show. Then, again you might not. Either way, Kalan wants some serious recognition for his ability to gripe. He wants Andy Rooney's old job, and he made this YouTube audition tape to plea his case. If he's serious--and it's pretty unclear if he is--the old man jacket and curmudgeonly approach might be ill-advised. After all, CBS News doesn't want to hire another Andy Rooney. "There's nobody like Andy and there never will be," said Jeff Fager, CBS News president and 60 Minutes executive producer, upon Rooney's retirement last week. "He'll hate hearing this, but he’s an American original."
