Stephen Colbert Is Flooding Iowa with Propaganda

With two days left until Iowa's symbolic Ames straw poll, Stephen Colbert's Super PAC is running on all eight cylinders, flooding the Hawkeye State and the rest of the country with an onslaught of satirical political propaganda aimed at influencing the vote. It's not clear how much money the Comedy Central host's legally-sanctioned Super PAC has raised, but each donor gets the distinguished honor of having his or her name scrolled by the bottom of the screen during his show. Here's what the campaign has pushed out so far.

Vote for Rick "Parry"  In a bid to utterly distort the outcome of the straw poll, the Colbert Super PAC's chief mission this week has been to encourage voters to submit write-in votes for Rick "Parry," a non-candidate that may in fact be frustrating the real candidate Rick Perry whose top aide tells Fox News he is indeed running for president and will announce on Saturday.

Approving of the ad, Time's Sonia Van Gilder Cooke writes "It's subtle humor, perhaps, but if you don't like the Parry joke, you can enjoy the campaign ad pastiche, which shows the Texas straight-talker brandishing a gun and unleashing his signature sneer."

Support the Colbert Super PAC  Politico's Ben Smith got his hands on a fundraising email the Colbert Super PAC's been sending around, which Smith concisely describes as "perfect":

They're doing it again – and we have only seconds to stop them before you, your pets, and everyone you love could experience whatever it is you're most afraid of!

Hit the message home  Churning out another high-production value ad today, the Colbert Super PAC doubles down on the "corn imagery and porn music," as the Splitsider's Adam Frucci notes:

Bring on the press release  Because this is a classy Super PAC, the Colbert committee doesn't just churn out orphan video messages. They need  to be accompanied by a slick press release. No one has ever described corn footage that sounds this dirty:

Colbert Super PAC Rushes New Commercial to Ad-Starved Iowans

AMERICA, USA – Colbert Super PAC released its second TV ad in advance of the Ames Iowa Straw Poll in support of Texas Governor Rick Parry, who is not running. The commercial, entitled "Behind the Green Corn" scolds outside Super PACs for airing ads with graphic footage of uncensored corn-shucking.

"I've never been to Iowa, and have no plans to go," said Stephen Colbert, President and Summer Intern of Colbert Super PAC. "But I know that Iowans are good, wholesome people who will not be swayed by these outside groups' underhanded tactics. They would much rather be swayed our overhanded tactics. That's why our new ad features not just corn shucking, but ear-sizzling, hot buttered, below-the-corn-belt action that appeals to Iowans' basest kernel instincts."

The new spot begins airing today in an ad blitz that will blanket Des Moines from CBS to NBC. Those who lack the resources to move there can view it here.
