Ryan Harrison Sulks His Way Through a First-Round U.S. Open Loss

The 19-year-old American tennis phenom lived up to his pouty reputation in a straight-set loss

The latest from the sports world: The "next John McEnroe" lives up to his hype in the worst way possible, the Oakland Raiders image overhaul continues, and America resumes its domination of the Little League World Series. 

• 19-year-old American tennis phenomenon Ryan Harrison has had his talent and temper compared to that of John McEnroe, but only the temper was on display Monday during Harrison's straight set loss to Croatia's Marin Cilic in the first round of the U.S. Open. ESPN's Howard Bryant tweets during the second set that a frustrated Harrison had tossed his racket "maybe a half-dozen times" and kicked a ball into the stands, prompting boos from the fans at Louis Armstrong Stadium. According to Women's Wear Daily media reporter John Koblin, the outburst prompted former pro Mary Carillo to call Harrison a "brat" and "Mr. Cranky Pants," while her Tennis Channel partner Martina Navratilov twice called his antics "pissy." Harrison's now out of the tournament, but remains on display modelling $100 sweat pants in this month's Vogue. • Oakland Raiders CEO Amy Trask balked at the "insidious" suggestion fans of the team were somehow predisposed towards violence following two shootings after the team's preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers last Saturday. To hammer the point home, the team is circulating a series of photos that show families and kids enjoying last night's preseason game against the Saints without incident. In an accompanying email, Trask advised, "Please use these photographs when helping others form opinions — and please remember that our commitment to a safe, secure, fun and family friendly environment is unwavering.”As Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio notes, one of the pictures seems to be composed mainly of Saints fans [Pro Football Talk]
• The FBI is joining the hunt for former Washington Wizards point guard Jarvis Crittenton, obtaining an arrest warrant for the former Georgia Tech point guard, who is wanted in connection with an August 19 shooting in Atlanta that left a  22-year-old mother of four dead. Atlanta police already have a murder warrant out for Crittenton. The FBI warrant is for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. [AP]
• The brief break in America's Little League World Series dominance is over, after the squad from Huntington Beach, California defeated Japan's Hamamatsu City club by a score of 2 to 1 following a tie-breaking RBI single from Nick Pratto--the coach's son--in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania yesterday. An American team has now won six out of the last seven Little League World Series. Last year, a Tokyo team beat Hawaii to secure the crown. [ESPN]
