This one's perfect for a rainy day. A music video for PEPEPIANO's "Fallopian Dudes" has a simple but wonderful premise: people jumping into water -- in slow motion. Directing duo Harrys, aka Harry Israelson and Harry Schleiff, talk about the making of the video in an interview below.
The Atlantic: What was the inspiration for this video?
Harrys: Well first of all we'd like to clarify that there are two Harrys responsible for directing the video. We've been lifelong friends and the nickname "the Harrys" was sort of involuntarily forced on us at a young age. The video was produced by our recently founded production company OutHere Productions. We spent a lot of time listening to the song. David Bird (aka PEPEPIANO) created an incredibly airy soundscape for us to work with, so the concept of floating people was a relatively natural connection for us to make.
The vibe is pure summer. How did you go about creating that aesthetic? How did you create those hazy colors?
We wanted to create the effect that occurs when you hang pictures on a wall in a very light-filled summer house -- they bleach and fade yet take on a certain beautiful and ghostly quality. We shot the video in natural summer light and didn't use any additional lighting sources.
Where did you shoot these scenes?
We shot the video in Montauk, NY on the very end of Long Island.
What's next for you?
In the next few weeks, we're looking to launch our own web-series to be shot and posted online in 3D. The series will showcase upcoming artists and musicians and will give them a platform to exhibit their talents in a nontraditional, 3D format. We're looking forward to shooting more music videos and commercials. We also plan on watching the Super Bowl in February.
