- Kanye West and Jay-Z put aside their beef for the launch of "What the Throne" Monday night, with Kanye going to "the early listening party" at the Hayden Planetarium, while Jay opted for "a later listening party for music-industry insiders," with Beyonce and Kelly Rowland along for moral support. Jay tried to downplay reports of tension between the two performers, explaining to Hot 97 in an interview: "Kanye is my brother. Yes, we get on each other's nerves, but that's part of pushing each other." Then they were off "to celebrate at The Darby until the early hours with Fabolous, Nas, Adrienne Bailon, Lindsay Ellingson, Jessica White and a gaggle of models who danced to 'Throne' tracks mixed by DJ Jus Ske and DJ Mick Boogie." - Facebook co-founder and bane of chickens everywhere Eduardo Saverin has been living large in St. Tropez, checking into the $8,000-a-night presidential suite of the swanky Hotel Byblos and party-hopping with a group of friends and an even larger gaggle of models." According to a source, Saverin "flew his pals from Singapore, where he's currently living, to the French Riviera in July, promising an extended party." After arriving at "Bagatelle Brunch in Nikki Beach on Saturday with three mates and 10 leggy models," Saverin reportedly "spent about $50,000 on Cristal, was spotted sipping the Champagne from the bottle, and his pals were seen spraying their attractive friends." - Laurence Fishburne has been cast as Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White--Superman's boss, in other words--in the upcoming franchise reboot, Man of Steel. [EW]
- Mel Gibson is reportedly "demanding a change to his child custody agreement with [ex-girlfriend] Oksana Grigorieva," the same Oksana Grigorieva he threatened to bury in a rose garden in a series of voicemail rants released last summer. Under the current custody agreement, Mel gets 3 overnights with [1-year-old daughter] Lucia every 2 weeks." If the actor's request is granted, Bibson and Grigorieva "will be much closer to an even 50-50 split of their time with Lucia." A hearing is said to be set for September. [TMZ]
- Al Sharpton to MSNBC isn't a done deal yet, cautions network president Phil Griffin. "No decision has been made [about giving Sharpton the 6 p.m. weeknight slot]" Griffin told reporters assembled at the Beverly Hilton for the Television Critics Association Tour. "We're looking at a lot of people. … You don't have to rush into these things." Sharpton's been guest-hosting in the 6 p.m. spot since former Cenk Uygur quit rather than accept a new timeslot last month. [Variety]
- Robert Zemeckis closed "a two-year first-look deal with Universal" for his company Imagemovers, which was shut down by Disney after the motion-capture Mars Needs Moms bombed earlier this year. [The Hollywood Reporter]
- It's been five years since Michael Richards broke down and started shouting racial slurs at nightclub hecklers, but the Seinfeld actor's found a new project with a "troubled history" on race. He'll be doing one of the voices for Jock of the Bushveld, "an animated film based on a 1907 South African novel that was cleansed of racist elements and the Afrikaans' version of the n-word." The project's backers include Jacko Marie, "a former member of parliament with the pro-apartheid National Party." Helen Hunt, Donald Sutherland and Archbishop Desmond Tutu round out the voice cast. - An unproduced adaptation of Norman Mailer's The Deer Park written by Joan Didion and husband John Gregory Dunne for producer Elliott Kastner may be getting new life, now that Kastner's stepson, Cassian Elwes (producer of Blue Valentine and formerly head of the Independent Film Division at the William Morris agency) has revived the project with Mailer's son Michael serving as producer.
