Evo Morales vs. Gayness-Inducing Chicken
Bolivian President Evo Morales doesn't want his countrymen eating chicken. Why not? Because he seems to think it makes them gay. Speaking at a conference on climate change, the leftist politician gave a stern warning against genetically modified foods. "The chicken we eat is loaded with female hormones. So, when men eat it, they tend to deviate from their manhood." After the audience broke out in laughter, he also claimed chicken causes baldness. "Baldness that appears to be normal is a disease in Europe, almost all of them are bald, and that is because of the things they eat; while among the indigenous peoples there are no bald people, because we eat other things.” Bloggers are having a field day:
- Wow, writes Dan Mitchell at The Big Money: "Where did he get these insane ideas? Science! ...He is defending his nonsense by saying it's all been scientifically proven, according to Bolivia's BNO News. As far as I can tell, he didn't cite any actual research showing links between food and the existence of gay, bald men." Foreign Policy's Joshua Keating adds "I don't think even PETA would make this argument."
- He's Late to the Game, writes The Guardian's Adam Gabbatt: "The dubious potential effects of hormone-infused chicken aside, Morales's warning may be out of date anyway as chicken producers in Europe, the US and many other countries abandoned the use of hormones in poultry several decades ago."
