Ugh, the worst thing about Fridays is that's when people usually get fired or laid off, as happened to several key writers at the Village Voice this afternoon, according to The New York Observer's Foster Kamer. The cuts hit a small but high-profile cohort, including staff writers Camille Dodero, Steven Thrasher, and Victoria Bekiempis. You may recognize Dodero's landmark piece on the Gathering of the Juggalos, Thrasher's award-winning profile of Lt. Dan Choi, and Bekiempis' work on the Runnin' Scared blog. Disappointing news all around, but at least there's some suggestion the job market is improving. That's probably cold comfort those writers right now, though.
