The New York Times confirms that it is "re-evaluating our podcast schedule for the coming year," looking to cancel many of them, reports Jim Romenesko. The decision seems to be about the best use of funds at the Grey (sometimes financially troubled) Lady, as podcasts take a lot of time to produce and don't necessarily reach a very large audience. Perhaps the woe-begone podcast producers and editors can add their names to the letter to publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr., already signed in recent days by 270 current and former employees who have written him with a long list of (unrelated) grievances from the past few years.
