Ruth Madoff, who's being featured on 60 Minutes in the first interview she's done about her husband's crimes, says "I don't know whose idea it was, but we decided to kill ourselves because it was so horrendous what was happening." Madoff tells Morley Safer, "We had terrible phone calls. Hate mail, just beyond anything and I said '...I just can't go on anymore.'" Bernie Madoff was actually placed on suicide watch in December 2010, after his son Mark hanged himself on the second anniversary of his father's arrest, reported CNN. In this instance, Ruth Madoff and her husband ingested a "bunch of pills, some of them Ambien and possibly some Klonopin" but (obviously since she's still being featured on Sunday's 60 Minutes) they didn't work. "We took pills and woke up the next day ... It was very impulsive and I am glad we woke up."
