Longtime Poynter media blogger Jim Romenesko has announced his pseudo-retirement from the site, reports the Huffington Post. "In Jan. 2012, Romenesko will launch his own become a part-time staffer for Poynter. He'll post casually to the media-news blog, the soon-to-be renamed "Romenesko+," and will continue tweeting from the @romenesko and @poynter Twitter accounts." He's going into his version of retirement he told Poynter Online Director Julie Moos. "Jim will post “casually” to his namesake blog on We expect that’ll mean a few items a day."

The new site won't differ much subject-wise, as the tagline of his forthcoming site suggests. "A blog about media ... and other things I'm interested in." Instead of his usual aggregation, he will perform more face-to-face interviews and reporting. And of course he has the liberty to write about things other than the media.
