Obama Touts Tax Cuts Amid Tea Parties

President Barack Obama used Wednesday's tax-filing deadline to spotlight the tax cuts implemented since he took office, but the effort competed for attention with a series of "tea party" protests against higher taxes and increased government spending.

In afternoon remarks, Mr. Obama pledged to rewrite the "monstrous" U.S. tax code, which he said is "far too complicated" for most people to grasp.

"We will make it quicker, easier, and less expensive for you to file a return, so that April 15 is not a date that is approached with dread each year," Mr. Obama said at the White House.
