    JULIÁN MARIÁSis the leading Spanish disciple of Ortega y Gasset, whom he aided in setting up the Institute of the Humanities from 1948 to 1950 in an abortive attempt to blow some fresh air into the atmosphere of academic life in Spain. Since then he has refused to hold any official teaching posts in his own country, though he does give private seminars in the humanities. He is well acquainted with the United States,having taught at Wellesley,Harvard,and Yale.
