A well-informed reader writes: "Are you honestly suggesting that because Obama/Biden/Solis spoke in favor of EFCA at an AFL-CIO meeting that this signals it's a priority?" Am I?
Am I confusing basic client politics for meaningful progress? True, one can't help but think that, for the administration, EFCA ranks somewhere between curing cancer and world peace on its list of priorities. (And when Obama's big labor cheerleader (Biden) spoke about it in person, they wouldn't allow cameras in.) And, true, the roll-out wasn't too smooth, with several defections hinted at, fewer co-sponsors than the last time around in spite of increasing pro-labor numbers, union strife swirling, and James Hoffa claiming that there was "nothing sacred about the secret ballot."
