An Awe-Inspiring Time-Lapse Journey Through California's Redwood Groves

By Kasia Cieplak-Mayr von Baldegg

Steven Poe's Redwood is a perfect three-minute escape, a dreamlike adventure through California's coastal forests set to a score by Yuki Murata. The project began as a personal challenge to practice shooting high-contrast scenes, Poe writes on his Vimeo page, but grew into the final video you see below. Anyone who has tried to take photos in a dense forest knows how difficult it can be to capture both bright patches of sunlight and deep shade. To solve this problem, Poe used high dynamic range (HDR) techniques. Make sure to watch the video full screen to appreciate the level of crisp detail in each shot.
