Occupy Takes on Hurricane Sandy

By Kasia Cieplak-Mayr von Baldegg

A year after the height of the Occupy movement, the umbrella organization InterOccupy is coordinating a relief effort in the wake of the storm. In We Got This, a team of Brooklyn-based documentary filmmakers speak with volunteers about their efforts to bring food, clothing, and other necessities to thousands of New Yorkers stranded without power and water. "I reached out to a number of service organizations spearheaded by the city," one volunteer explains, "but none of them got back to me. I reached out to Occupy, and because everything is so on the ground and so current, you just can jump right in." The video was created by Alex Mallis, who produced a documentary about the Occupy movement in Zuccotti Park a year ago, Eric Phillips-Horst, and Nicodemus Nicoludis, affiliated with the Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective and Analect Films
