A Brief History of Logo Design

By Kasia Cieplak-Mayr von Baldegg

From cave paintings to heavy metal band names, the latest episode of PBS' Off Book series traces the importance of logos through the ages. This short documentary talks to designers including Gerard Huerta, the creator of ACDC's logo, and Kelli Anderson, who crafted Off Book's own logo. Anderson describes the discipline as an "invisible vocabulary" composed of elements "informed and reinforced by the things that we see every day."

The segment was produced by Kornhaber Brown for PBS, and the full credits are available here. The series looks at media, art, and culture, spanning topics from Reddit to 8-bit video games
