"This is the story of a search -- a search for beauty," begins the narrator of this 1960s documentary by Ford. Thus begins Styling and the Experimental Car, a whirlwind history of automotive design and innovation, culminating with the iconic Mustang in 1964. From the first cars, which still looked like carriages, to the streamlined, rocket ship-inspired lines of the space age, the film celebrates decades of Ford designs. Courtesy of the Prelinger Archive, the film runs a little long, but is well worth watching for the collage-style animation of historic and futuristic illustrations and photographs. Check out some of the stills from the film below.
